Rooted Together

New Mexico Estate Planning Conference February 25
After ten years of grantmaking through the Foundation’s annual business meeting, known as Great Grant Giveaway, we chose to pause the event in 2024 to engage with the community in the process of reimagining and reinventing this signature event. After conducting surveys and community conversations, we formed a sub-committee composed of Foundation Trustees, Committee members, and nonprofits leaders to dive into the feedback and create the beginnings of a new grantmaking event.

Introducing Rooted Together

Together We Give. Together We Grow.

Rooted Together is a community-centered initiative that brings neighbors, nonprofit partners, and donors together to celebrate local impact, shared values, and the power of collective giving over the course of two years.

Through storytelling, music, grantmaking, and conversation, our first gathering this fall will be hosted as a block party to highlight the importance of investing in community strength, honoring cultural roots, and working collaboratively toward a more equitable future. Rooted in joy and purpose, the event offers an opportunity to connect, reflect, and grow stronger together.

This event will spotlight grantmaking strategies centered on a two-year commitment to emphasize the importance of longer-term investment in the greater Albuquerque metro area. As we've learned from our grantmaking partners, long-term funding provides grantees the time, flexibility and stability they need to deepen impact, build lasting capacity and plan more effectively.

Rooted Together Grantmaking

Rooted Together is a unique opportunity to build a lasting impact. Focused on multi-year funding, our grantmaking process is prioritized on relationship building, learning, and long-term vision. If your organization is working toward meaningful, community-centered change, Rooted Together is an opportunity to support the kind of investment that matches the depth of your work and mission.

Bringing Rooted Together to life will take time, and we are grateful for all the community feedback we've heard to this point.  With a spirit of adaptability and listening to community, we are committed to reviewing the application and evaluation each year to ensure a more equitable and transparent grantmaking process for all. This pilot year will help us to create parameters and examples for future cycles, continuously evolving to meet the needs of the community.
