Emergency Action Fund for Roswell
Support Food Insecurity in New Mexico
Food insecurity in New Mexico is a growing crisis. Nearly 20% of children in our state don’t know where their next meal will come from, and 1 in 8 residents faces hunger every day.
Local food pantries are on the front lines, serving families who need immediate relief. With proposed federal cuts threatening over $3 billion in state support for programs like SNAP and Medicaid, even more families may be forced to choose between necessities such as food, housing, and healthcare.
The Foundation and United Way of North Central New Mexico (UWNCNM) have established the Emergency Action Fund for Food Insecurity (EAF) to help fill the gap for New Mexico families impacted by the current pause in SNAP benefits. Each month, more than 280,000 households rely on SNAP to afford groceries.
EAF will provide critical support to nonprofits and food programs serving those most affected. Should emergency needs be met, remaining funds will be granted to food banks statewide to strengthen long-term food security.
We are deeply grateful to our statewide funders and community partners whose generosity makes this work possible. Together, we can ensure every New Mexican has access to the food they need to thrive.
Local Restaurants Providing Free Meals
Numerous local restaurants are supporting New Mexico families by offering free meals for children, teens, veterans, and the elderly.

Emergency Action Fund Grant Application
The Foundation and United Way of North Central New Mexico (UWNCNM) have established the Emergency Action Fund for Food Insecurity (EAF) to help fill the gap for New Mexico families impacted by the current pause in SNAP benefits.
We are now accepting EAF for Food Insecurity grant applications!
Applications and awards will be on a rolling basis as funds are raised.
WHO CAN APPLY
- Nonprofit organizations granted tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
- Educational Institutions
- Governmental entities (including local, state, and tribal government agencies)
Organizations providing critical support to address food insecurity who meet the criteria above are encouraged to apply via the Foundation's grant portal.
