Sam Bicknell-Hernandez grew up in sunny St. Augustine, Florida but has called Albuquerque home since 2015. After receiving her Bachelors in East Asian Studies from the University of New Mexico and teaching abroad pre-pandemic, she found her true passion in supporting her community through graphic arts.

Outside of work, she can be found either hanging out with her husband and family, cuddling her two dogs, playing video games, attending concerts, and listening to dark wave goth music.

Meet Sam...

  • Red or green? Green!
  • Mountain or River? Mountains and Rivers. Mountains keep me grounded but I am a water rat.
  • Comedy Club or Dance Club? Dance Club
  • Hometown: St. Augustine, Florida
  • High School Mascot: Panthers
  • If you could have lunch with anyone alive or dead, who would it be? I’d love to have lunch with my maternal grandfather and my uncle. Both were great men and heavily influenced me during my childhood, and I miss them a lot.
  • If you didn’t work for the Foundation, where would you work?I’d be a music video director or the art director for a streetwear brand.
  • Name three songs you would include on your soundtrack of life:Sportsman by Haruomi Hosono, Dazzle by Siouxsie Sioux, Fantasy by DyE
  • What’s your favorite time of the year in New Mexico? Fall and Spring are especially magical here. The yellow leaves, weather, hot air balloon fiesta, luminarias, it’s spectacular.
  • What is a skill you’d like to learn? I’ve always wanted to learn to sew. Sewing machines intimidate me.
  • If you could witness any event of the past, present or future, what would it be? Ten Cent Beer Night in Cleveland, Ohio 1974
