2023 Grant

Fathers Building Futures

Fathers Building Futures is a social enterprise based in Albuquerque, NM. They are led by nonprofit professionals as well as a team of formerly incarcerated parents who serve as mentors and supervisors to parents (mostly fathers) returning home from prison.

Their mission is “to ensure parents and families experiencing barriers from incarceration receive the best opportunities for stability — emotionally, socially, and financially.”

STEM is Child's Play

Established in 2018, STEM is Child’s Play provides K-12 programming in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math – and learning! – for kids in under-resourced areas of central New Mexico. Their village consists of partnerships with non-profits, schools, elected officials, businesses, parents and educators.

2021 Grant

Susan's Legacy

Susan’s Legacy has provided gender-specific services to women with co-occurring mental health and addiction disorders (COD), including intensive case management, mental health counseling, addiction counseling and support groups.

Susan’s Legacy provides these services to all clients free of charge. Women who are clients tend to be economically disadvantaged; many are homeless, and most have a history of physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse which leads to a diagnosis of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Many of the women served by Susan’s Legacy have lost custody of or contact with their children because of behaviors connected with severe mental illness or drug addiction.

Saranam is an innovative program that takes a unique two-generational approach to guiding families out of homelessness and poverty and realize their potential of more positive futures.

TenderLove Community Center

TenderLove Community Center’s Sew4Real business cooperative, which provides a springboard for women to break their cycles of poverty and homelessness. Participating women learn sewing skills, business practices and gain access to mentors, peer engagement and financial resources to become more self-sufficient

Future Focused Education: Future Focused Internship Program

Future Focused Education is working with local employers who are concerned about workforce needs and want to be a part of the solution to eliminate this tradeoff. Through the Future Focused Internship Program, forward-thinking employers can contribute to providing underserved and underrepresented students with authentic learning experiences that develop the skills and character necessary for these students to overcome barriers and become successful leaders in their communities and in their future professions. The program provides a bridge for students from the Leadership Schools Network to life after high school that puts them on a path toward higher education and living-wage employment.

2017 Grant

St. Martin’s HopeWorks

This organization is one of the largest homeless service providers in the state. This fall, St. Martin’s launched HopeFound, a pilot program aimed specifically at housing families with children. HopeFound’s primary goal is to rapidly re-house families with children, paying rent for up to six months and providing intensive case management to help them pay their own rent, within six months. Similar programs across the country consistently demonstrate an 85-90% success rate. St. Martin’s has partnered with the State of New Mexico’s Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and will place an emphasis on job development and assistance with an array of employment services for families participating in HopeFound. With the support of the Social Giving Club and other partners, HopeFound will be able to serve 50 families in its first year.

2016 Grant

Cultivating Coders

After narrowing the interest areas down to Health and Economic and Workforce Development, the Social Giving Club’s inaugural grant of $25,000 was awarded to Cultivating Coders, an Albuquerque-based coding bootcamp that brings tech skills to rural, tribal and other low-income communities. The eight-week intensive training workshop in coding and web application development curriculum will focus heavily on the most desired sets of skills sought by employers, with the goal of creating a graduating class of “full-stack” developers. Students will also work with local employers on three projects over the course of the program—this gives them the opportunity to graduate with a professional portfolio and a reference contact.
