The Hancock Family Foundation was a privately supported, tax exempt philanthropic institution organized to provide leadership and encouragement to community-based charitable activities in New Mexico.
In 2021, the Hancock Family decided to enlist the support of the Albuquerque Community Foundation in administering the family grant program.
Through its grants, the Hancock Family Foundation seeks to support agencies dedicated to women and children’s health and welfare; education, performing arts and cultural organizations; wilderness preservation and animal protection.
The general policy of the Hancock Family Foundation is to allocate funds to nonprofit philanthropic organizations whose purpose and continuing work foster various community projects that best fit the Foundation’s mission statement.
What You Need to Know:
- Maximum grant awards are determined annually; currently the average grant amount is $2000.
- Funding focus area: women and children’s health and welfare; education, performing arts and cultural organizations; wilderness preservation and animal protection.
- Foundation grants are generally not made to individuals, for political or religious purposes, to retire indebtedness, for the payment of interest or taxes, annual campaigns, scholarships, endowments, emergency funding, to influence legislation or elections, or to private foundations and other grant-making organizations.
- Grants are normally made for a one-year period, although in special circumstances consideration may be given to support a project for two or three years. The Foundation prefers not to consider more than one proposal from an organization within a twelve-month period.
Eligible organizations must be:
- exempt from U.S. federal income tax pursuant to section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (the “Code”) and classified as a public charity under section 509(a)(1) or section 509(a)(2) of the Code; and/or an educational institution or governmental entity;
- in compliance with the IRS Guidestar Charity Check Report, NM Attorney General’s COROS filing and the NM Secretary of State.

- Organization’s mission statement
- Project summary
- Goals, objectives and scope of the project
- Need for the project
- Start and end dates of the project
- Expected results
- Specific amount requested from the Hancock Family Foundation
- Brief statement of personnel responsible for project implementation.
- Information on recent grants received by the organization, pending proposals for other funds and plans for additional funding for this project.
- Plans for evaluating the success of the grant, including financial accountability.
- Plans for continuation of the project following the grant period.
The following attachments must be provided:
- Current registration with the Attorney General’s Office. The NM Charitable Organizations and Solicitations Act requires all nonprofit organizations to report annually, or organizations may provide the Attorney General’s letter of exemption.
- Proof of Good Standing with the NM Secretary of State: a state-issued document that shows your nonprofit has met its statutory requirements and is authorized to do business in this state.
- Detailed project budget – a line item estimate of costs and income.
- Detailed copy of the organization’s current annual operating budget reflecting expenditures, receipts and a statement of assets and liabilities.
- Listing of current members of the board of directors indicating officers and including professional, business and/or community affiliations.
- Educational institutions must provide the operating budget for individual university departments.
Applicants that do not meet the requirements or that submit an application that fails to address every one of these bullets will not be considered.
Final Report Evaluation and Procedures
Recipients must submit full and complete final report describing the manner in which grant funds are spent and the progress made in accomplishing the purposes of the grant. Any funds not expended for the specific purpose of the grant must be returned to the Hancock Family Foundation and cannot be diverted to other uses without the express approval of the Foundation. Final reports are due and should be completed through the ACF online grant portal no later that September 1. If the final report is not received by the deadline, the recipient will be ineligible to receive funding from the Foundation for 1 year.
